Americans would be comfortable with a Mormon president

Title:

Americans would be comfortable with a Mormon president

Created on:

Mitt Romney recently reassured the American public saying that as president he would "serve no one religion, no one group, no one cause." However previous polls have shown that surveys suggest up to half of likely voters have qualms about electing a Mormon president. Where do you stand?

Agree or Disagree?

Registered Independent Respond I'm not sure I'd be entirely comfortable with a president who sports holy undies aka sacred undergarmets.

Registered Independent Respond It's not just the undies, Mormonism has a wide number of beliefs that just sound downright zany.

Registered Independent Respond Yep, underwear is just the beginning: Baptisms and Marriages for dead people. Mother and Father Gods. People living on other planets.

Though to be fair, Christians believe a man was swallowed by a whale, that a guy walked on water, changed water into wine and rose from the dead.

Registered Independent Respond Mormons are taught that God the Father is now on a planet near the star Kolob with his wives having spiritual children. They also believe that Jesus and Lucifer (Satan) were once spirit brothers. And, at least in the past, the religion taught that Jesus was married to more than one wife. This may have been revised when the rules changed up. Not exactly mainstream ideas in my book.

Registered Independent Respond Not a chance. Not even if wherever Mormons think bad people go after death freezes over.

Registered Independent Respond In response to mike:You've got to be sh%^&ing me! I had no idea that these guys were so far out there. That seems less religion, more cult.

Registered Independent Respond Yeah, even if you can get past the whole holy undergarmets, having your God live on star in a galaxy far away with his spirtitual wives, seems a bit far fetched.

Registered Independent Respond Everyone is entitled to their religious beliefs. However, when they are this far out there, I don't want that person to be my president.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Kat:Amen to that! Apparently the religion also teaches that Jesus roamed around the US talking to Indians.

Registered Independent Respond I'll stick to a good old-fashioned Christian president, thank you very much. It's what our nation was founded on and has served us well so far.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Bella:I couldn't agree more! No matter what anyone says, I don't really think that Mormons qualify as Christians.

Registered Independent Respond You add in mysterious secret rites, practiced at their special mormon temples, and I have to pass.
posted by Peter(350) 7 months and 13 days ago Aspiring Patriot
Registered Independent Respond In response to Peter:Yeah, anything that you need to keep secret from the rest of the world tends to make me a little nervous.
posted by Cass(350) 7 months and 13 days ago Aspiring Patriot
Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:But then again, if my church leader taught that my god was living on the planet Kolob, I might want to keep things under wraps. I mean really, it sounds kind of like a coneheads script.
