In response to mike:Yeah, it's strange that there's so much secrecy -- you don't see that in most religions.

Baptizing the dead doesn't go real well in mainstream America either. (Mormons believe that by being baptised "in proxy" for their departed relatives and for others, they can release their souls so as to be able to enter a higher paradise.)

I don't think that Romney can expect to remain quiet about his faith. It's not like he's an Easter/Christmas church attendee. In addition to his missionary work in France, Romney served as a part-time lay minister and has also been a stake president in his church.

Mitt seems to be monogamous -- but Romney's paternal great-grandparents practiced plural marriage, and fled to Mexico in 1884 after an 1878 U.S. Supreme Court decision that upheld laws banning polygamy.

In response to Cass:Yep. That's why they keep it a secret.

In response to Thor:That doesn't seem to have much bearing -- it's his great-grandparents, after all.

In response to Thor:That's a very valid point -- until now, repoters seem to be letting him get away with not talking about it.

In response to Thor:that tenet seems to staandalne. Closest thing I've heard of is the Catholic's inulgences -- let your family buy you way out of purgatory.

In response to Peter:Holy undies that encourage you to remember to dress modestly are not such a bade idea -- I've seen some kids at the mall who would do well to wear them. However, I've heard that some peoople actually believe that they protect them as well.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm all in favor of freedom of religion. You can believe the giant earwig created the universe for all I care -- just not if you want to be my president.

In response to corinthians:I'll second that. I've also heard that Romney is pretty active in his church and has played a big part in setting the curriculum for its kids. To me, that puts it on the agenda.

In response to mike:That cartoon is absolutely bizarre. I always thought that Mormons were pretty much Christians, now I'm not so sure.
