In response to Cass:Yeah. It's a little hard to muster up alot of sympathy for banks that tried to make a quick buck by granting iffy loans.

In response to mike:I guess the government is kind of a fault, but the real problem is the banks that made the bad loans. That's bad business and they should have to pay the costs.

The problem is so bad for renters that Congress is considering a measure to require landlords to give tenants 90 days’ notice before they can be evicted. But that won't help all the one's who get booted before the new year.

In response to Cass:I heard that California could lose nearly $3 billion in property tax revenue and another $1 billion in sales and transfer tax revenue thanks to foreclosures. That's a lot of money down the drain.

In response to Cass:At the Women’s Center of San Joaquin County in Stockton, Calif., calls to the domestic abuse hot line have jumped 12 percent -- experts put a lot of it to the stress of possible foreclosure.

In response to corinthians:It's sad that no one anticipates the ripple effect. I'd never have thought that it would lead to increased abuse...but it does seem to make sense.

In response to Peter:Any ideas yet on where they will cut the budget? Roads, Schools, prisons? I guess none of the choices are that good.

In response to Peter:Yep. And sadly, Joe Sixpack is going to be the one who ends up suffering the most. A bad economy means less jobs, and even more foreclosures, even for people who did everything right.

Yes. Life is bad for renters who lose the place where they are living. Life is bad for the people who build houses. And they really didn't do anything wrong. Unfortunately the primary beneficiary of this bailout are the banks. And they did do something wrong, they wrote bad loans. I have a problem with that. A big one.

Something else that noone is keying in on is that downswings in the market are where smart people make their money. Want to invest in real estate? Now's a heck of a lot better time than last year.
