Candy that looks like drugs should be banned

Title:

Candy that looks like drugs should be banned

Hershey's new Ice Breakers Pacs are tiny, blue, dissolvable packets of white mint powder that look a whole lot like heat-sealed dime bags of cocaine. The company maintains that the pacs are branded with a list of ingredients. Cops say they are concerned that drug dealers will use the packaging to conceal drugs. Should Hersheys be required to pull the new candy from the market?

Agree or Disagree?

Registered Independent Respond The government should step in before a kid takes cocaine by mistake thinking it's candy.

Registered Independent Respond Would it be wise for the company to do a voluntary recall? Sure. But the government shouldn't force them.

Registered Independent Respond Does anyone remember back in the 70s when drug dealers started to make LSD that looked like cartoon characters? I know there were at least a few cases of kids licking and sticking and ODing...I think a few of them might even have died. This sounds like that all over again, but in reverse. A candy company is copying the drug dealers this time.

Registered Independent Respond In response to southboca:Sheesh. You'd risk letting a little kid die, rather than cut into company profits? That's cold.

Registered Independent Respond It seems to rather glamorize drug use. Makes you wonder whether the company knew about the resemblance from the get-go.

Registered Independent Respond In response to corinthians:No doubt. Makes you wonder if the idea guys have drug convictions, too.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:Yep. The company paid to develop the product. The company will get sued if the product causes problems. Once you get the government involved, they want their fingers in everything.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:I kind of picture it more as clueless. Some poor schmuck who had never seen cocaine before in his life brainstormed the idea, ran it through some non-druggie focus groups, and convinced the company to pour a ton of money into it.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:Remember candy cigarettes? Now they are called dinosaur bones. And kids still pretend to smoke them. Didn't do much to solve the problem, did it?

Registered Independent Respond In response to southboca:That would make you a cold hearted #$%^&*. No offense, but seriously, how can you put business above the lives of kids?

Registered Independent Respond In response to Kat:That's too bad. But if it looks like cocaine, why would you want your company associated with this product?

Registered Independent Respond In response to southboca:So why introduce another gateway candy that helps make kids think that a drug is cool or OK?
posted by Cass(350) 7 months and 15 days ago Aspiring Patriot
Registered Independent Respond In response to southboca:Easy to say until it's your kid's life on the line. This is a bad idea that should never see the light of day.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:Because when you dump a couple hundred thousand into R&D, it's really hard to just walk away from it.

Registered Independent Respond In response to corinthians:I started thinking about it. I sure don't know what packaged cocaine looks like. Does anybody else? Makes me think it might have just been a mistake.
