Ok let me get this right. President Bush, who walked into the Korean mess, is bad because he'll give them a stipend to give up nukes, yet President clinton is a super hero when he gave them ten times more, and the N Koreans still broke the agreement???
What's next? It's Bushes fault because the flavor of your coffee is out of wack???
If president Bush were to order a nuke strike that destroyed their reactor as well as the weapons that they may have produced, you would still complain that nothing American was hurt.

I think this isn't a good idea. It will keep Kim in power longer and the next time he wants something, he will just ask for more. I think he will take advantage of us and continue to be a threat.

I think in this particular case, we've got to do something to get them to give up their nukes. Kim is friggin' nuts, and he'd be someone stupid enough to use his nuclear weapons without considering the possible consequences first. We've got to get those out of his hands.

He's definitely doing an about face. We started from a stance of no negotiation until after the nukes were out. We switched back to pretty much the same plan that Republicans criticized when it was offered up by Democrats.

Bush is making a huge mistake in Korea. But he really doesn't have much choice. We don't have any more troops to force Kim Jong Il to give up his program. So we're stuck offering him incentives instead.

In response to Tigriz:I think the problem is that we are giving him stuff BEFORE he gives up the nukes. This is exactly what we said we weren't going to do. I think there's very little keeping him from making more when he wants something else.

In response to corinthians: Well that would mean that Bush actually thought this thing through before hand, and we know he's not really capable of that.

More like a fiasco. It's kind of like saying to don't negotiate with terrorists ... and then you negotiate with them. This move is just going to make Kim that much more greedy.

We are giving in to a tyrant who is blackmailing us. When you reward bad behavior, 9 times out of 10 you get the same bad behavior. Bush is making a huge mistake. However, he doesn't have too many other options.

I think he is blackmailing us and what is the guarantee after getting fuel oil, he will follow his commitment.

It is not the right step to encourage North Korea and is there any guarantee that North Korea will follow us?

I thought this was very interesting. Here is a propoganda film that shows how the N. Korean government wants its people to view Americans:

North Korea is said to have developed nuclear weapon although I am not sure about it but we should take some strict action on North Korea.

I think North Korea is just a bit unbalanced. The leader appears to think far too highly of himself; and that can be a recipe for disater. However, I don't think we have enough soldiers left over to take military action, even if we want to.

Of course it will come back to haunt us. North Korea is totally unhinged right about now. They may very well turn over some of their nuclear goodies, but they would never give up all of them. And Dasuit, the point is, Bush is making the same mistake, not that he started all this in the first place.
